In 1990, Parton, 72, was on holiday in Ireland when she decided to visit Páidí Ó Sé’s pub, which is located in the village of Ventry.

The inhabitants of the community for the most part still speak Gaelic, but the language barrier didn’t keep them from approaching the legendary singer and requesting her to sing her universally beloved hit, “Coat of Many Colors.”

The multi-awarded singer then graciously accepted and gave them a performance of a lifetime. Follow us on our Twitter account, @amomama_usa, to learn more and scroll down to watch her iconic performance below.

Parton, who is the most honored female country performer of all time, took the mic as the pub's musician's tune-up. She said:

“Well, hello… and welcome to Ireland. My name is Dolly and I’m on vacation. I was not going to sing tonight. I was going to be entertained.”

Pointing to the seated guitarist, Parton added, “He says he knows my song… and he asked me to sing it.”

Also during the same visit, Páidí Ó Sé, an Irish Gaelic football manager and player, welcomed the veteran singer and introduced her to the audience.

“You know I’m speaking in Irish, I should hope. That’s our language back in this part of the peninsula,” he said.

Páidí then presented Parton with his jersey from the 1985 All-Ireland final. He cracked a joke saying that the jersey had not been washed since 1985.
